The Covid Memorial Project began in North Dakota. Initially, Carl Young thought to memorialize his mother who had recently passed away from Covid-19 related complications. As the idea grew to fruition, he began to realize that it is much bigger than any one state.
He decided that the memorial would serve three purposes.
- Memorialize in a visual way ALL of those who have passed of Covid or Covid related issues.
- Get the attention of the leaders who are not leading the fight in a way that is meaningful and gets action.
- Raise awareness for the mental health of all of those who are on the front lines of the Covid Battle. The doctors, nurses, CNA’s, lab tech and so many others. Who is caring for the caregivers?
Beginning in North Dakota, and ending in Washington D.C. sometime in the Fall of 2021 is the goal. With a complete set of flags for each state represented.
For example, in North Dakota, the memorial will have one flag for each citizen that has passed from Covid-19 or Covid-19 related complications.
In other states where the death rate is much higher, the plan is to keep it the same.
What we would like to do is stage the whole thing in DC in the Fall of 2021 so that the whole country is represented.
